Low Noise & High Quality

As in any professional environment, it is expected that participants in #DayTraders will stick to business. To avoid embarrassment it would generally be best to avoid off topic chatter in the channel entirely, at least until you become a regular and "well known" participant.

Please note that there will be several hundred users logged into our channel during market hours! If everyone typed their stream of consciousness continually, chaos would ensue. Consequently, we maintain a low volume/noise, high quality concept. During trading hours especially, it is essential that all members conform to this principle. Our channel seeks and rewards sharp, intelligent, and thoughtful commentary.

Professional & Cordial Atmosphere

#DayTraders provides a civil, moderated trading space. The standards maintained in our channel are those that you would expect to prevail in any professional working environment. We ask that all members maintain a professional and cordial attitude in our channel. Active, friendly cooperation with one another is our recipe for success... irrelevant quarrels will be dealt with firmly.

Abuse

Abuse of fellow Traders or general quarrels is not be tolerated. #DayTraders operators work to filter out personal abuse, stock manipulation, and unethical activities in general. In channel advertising must be pre-authorized. As our operators are volunteers, and active traders themselves, we cannot take responsibility for the content of our channel scroll. Please notify us if you see material that concerns you. Be sure to read our disclaimer.

Off Topic Chat

During trading hours every second counts. One off topic remark may lead to a flood of follow-up posts, and should thus be avoided. Be warned that we routinely evict/blacklist (extreme cases) noisy elements from our room. Off topic chit chat / wisecracks must be avoided, users should focus on important, informative / relevant short term trading material.  Business is what matters at #DayTraders.

Off topic issues to avoid during trading hours:

  • Brokers, financial services queries, ratings, extraneous comments
(for example: "which broker is best?", "xyz sucks")
  • Public comments on channel problems, kicks, policy, news or member hype (/msg ops or email us)
  • Newcomer, channel guidelines queries (/msg ops or review our FAQ)
  • Wisecracks, jokes (our goal is to help members achieve high gains, not entertain them.)
  • Flames, personal attacks, public notes (avoid sharing private / personal notes publicly. /msg ops)
  • Off topic CNBC related comments: facts only please! (i.e. avoid physical comments on hosts, ...)
  • Commercial Ads, channel ads, financial services promotion.
  • Political comments
New members are encouraged to log in and watch the action for a while. There is however a general expectation that each user should make contributions to the channel. People who log in day in and day out, lurking on line all day without contributing may eventually get purged from the channel.

Those who wish to engage in any off topic discussions must join #DTOT, a 100% unmoderated channel for all our users which can be used in conjunction with our main room. #DayTraders allows all off topic stock trading discussions after market hours.

Manipulation

It is acceptable to share your enthusiasm for stocks that you are keen on. Bare faced stock hyping though is not tolerated at #DayTraders.  Please report any troublemakers to ops, via a private notice.

Most people need not be concerned about this guideline. If you however, are a stock "hype artist", note that our ops have a keen nose for mere hype. All those who engage in such hyping in an attempts to beat a few twitches of life into dead stocks, or to otherwise engage in manipulation, will find themselves quickly banished from our channel. Please note though that, while we are committed to sustaining an ethical trading space and a professionally civil atmosphere, Daytraders.org formally disclaims responsibility to provide these services. Please note that DayTraders.org is committed to pro-actively cooperating with enforcement the enforcement organs of the SEC, NASDAQ, NASD, and any other regulatory authorities. Users who engage in manifest misconduct may expect a full report of their activities, including all traceable personal identifying information, to be forwarded by us to the relevant enforcement authorities.

Research

You are enjoined to do your own research before buying or selling any stock tagged in our channel. We suggest that it would be unwise to buy or sell any security based upon any trader's say so, no matter how sterling his or her reputation or track record may be. While past history shows that significant profits have demonstrably been gained in some cases by moving as a "pack" following a "hot trader", this sort of trading is not as easy as it can sometimes appear to be. Usually "hot" trades have a substantial substrate that knowledgeable traders are already familiar with. You're likely to see dozens of so called "hot picks" each trading day, yet few of them will actually pay. A good rule to follow is that you should have your own, independent reasons for engaging in any securities transaction, independent of what you see in the channel scroll. It is critical to bear in mind that your buying decision will always be just that -- your decision.

Please take any information you see in #DayTraders as a starting point for your own independent research program. Please consult a licensed financial advisor before trading stocks or before deciding to trade stocks independently.

DayTraders.org is not licensed to provide investment advice... nothing you see in #DayTraders can qualify as licensed investment advice. If a #DayTraders participant makes a representation to you that he or she is licensed to provide investment advice, it is up to you to independently confirm the truth of such representations.

DayTraders.org does not warrant that any participant at #DayTraders is a qualified financial advisor. #DayTraders is offered as a forum for public conversations only between people in their individual capacities.

Contributing

You are strongly encouraged to share your buy/sell decisions in real time & intelligent / profitable stock commentaries.  Through announcing your stock orders live, you will establish your own personality on line. Who knows, you may even generate a following. Make sure you always specify the price of the order.

Posting fresh financial news (0-5 mns old, unless requested) to #DayTraders is also greatly appreciated. Keep posts to a minimum: Share relevant portions of the news, avoid overlong/choppy posts, make sure the symbol is included. Sharing the news URL is also very helpful, if it can be freely accessed.

[Advanced tip: To share orders, simply type /ME buys/sells <stock> @ <price>. See IRC tips section for further details on sharing calls & cut and pasting]
